Gratiagusti Chananya Rompas was born in Jakarta, 19 August 1979. She studied English Literature in Universitas Indonesia, Depok (2003) and received her masters in The Gothic Imagination from University of Stirling, Scotland (2005). She is one of the founders of Komunitas BungaMatahari, a mailing list-based Indonesian poetry community that have embraced many poetry enthusiasts with its catchphrase “semua bisa berpuisi” or, roughly translated, “poetry for all”. She is also involved in Selatan, a literary journal, and Paviliun Puisi, a monthly open mic event--both managed by her and her like-minded friends. She currently resides in Jakarta, trying to find balance between writing and day-to-day living.

neatly folded in rolls, sorted by styles and colors in the top drawer.

a bowl of soup

i was about to eat when i knocked a bowl of soup and the soup dripped from the edge of the table, wetting my clothes. i had to go upstairs, took a quick shower and changed. i have always hated interruptions. why can’t things just go the way they should?

and i began to think about everything that’s wrong with this house. in this house. it’s like the movie we watched last night. sometimes people simply can’t afford happiness.

and now i’m listening to my daughter crying upstairs.

  1. akhir-akhir ini, sepertinya semakin banyak orang yang lebih suka diberitahu mana buku yang harus disukai. apalagi sekarang makin banyak produk, termasuk buku, yang dipromosikan lewat #twitberbayar untuk menciptakan efek “word of mouth”. informasi tentang buku terbaru semakin mudah dan cepat tersedia.
    memang tidak ada yang salah dengan mencari rekomendasi atau membaca review sebelum membeli, tetapi apakah itu satu-satunya cara menemukan atau menentukan karya yang menarik untuk dibaca, terutama ketika hanya sebagian orang bisa membedakan mana yang tulus dan mana yang berbayar?

    di masa di mana jumlah followers merupakan aset dan selera dapat diatur oleh buzz, apakah kita harus kehilangan keasyikan memilih sendiri apa yang ingin kita baca?
